Where to Stay in Phuket for Muay Thai Training

Where you stay in Phuket makes a bigger difference to your training than most people expect. Training twice a day means four trips a day if you stay far from the gym. Here is how to choose.
The golden rule: stay close to the gym
The best place to stay is wherever you can walk to training. When the gym is five minutes away, you train more, rest more and spend less on taxis. When it is thirty minutes away, you start skipping the afternoon class.
Patong
Patong is Phuket's busiest beach town, with nightlife, restaurants and shopping. It is great for a holiday, but it is loud late at night, and early nights matter when you train in the morning.
Chalong
Chalong in the south of the island is home to several gyms and is popular with long stay fighters. It is quieter than Patong but further from the west coast beaches.
Kathu
Kathu sits between Patong and Phuket Town, in the green middle of the island. It is quieter, greener and more local, but still a short drive from the beaches. This is where Phuket King is.
Staying at the gym
The easiest option of all is to stay where you train. At Phuket King, Pangea Resort has eleven air conditioned lakeside bungalows one minute from the ring. Your day looks like this:
- Walk to the morning class.
- Breakfast at Pangea Cafe, a few steps away.
- Ice bath, sauna or a nap by the lake.
- Afternoon or evening class.
When you book your room directly with us, group Muay Thai is included for one person for your whole stay. See free rooms and prices.
What to look for, wherever you stay
- Distance to the gym: walking distance is best.
- Air conditioning: good sleep is good recovery.
- Healthy food nearby: you will be hungry.
- Quiet nights: you will want to sleep early.
Long stays
If you want to train for months, the DTV visa lets you stay up to 180 days per visit, and we handle the training paperwork for you.
